A writer in need of things to read – help!
Jen says:
For August I’m the resident blogger at the State Library of Victoria’s Young Adult Lit site, Inside a Dog, to read and review YA-appropriate comics and graphic novels. I’m hoping to reach well beyond my own meager understanding of this field by taking advice from folks who know better than me. So, tell me what I don’t know – what great graphic novels either for or about young adults (13-18 year olds) should I be writing about? Leave a comment here, or email me on jenbreach (at) gmail (dot) com. The longer your list of recommendations, the happier you’ll make me! Thanks!

Phil Foglio’s adaptation of Robert Asprin’s “Myth Adventures” would be suitable.

Have you checked out http://www.unshelved.com/ ? Unshelved is a comic strip about librarians and the main character is specifically a young adult librarian. They do a “Book Club” recommendation once a week. It used to be on Sundays, but now they do it on Fridays. On their site, though, they have a Book Club link to the comics they did about the books. Many of them (if not almost all) are graphic novels.
The writers of the strip are also probably a great resource if you wanted to reach them. I know they used to have a question and answer part to their forum, but I know they’d had some issues with stuff changing a few months ago and I don’t know if they have that functionality back.
Hope that helps!

And the cavalry comes through with the goods! You guys are awesome! Thanks a bundle – I’ll check out the ones I don’t know (which is most) – they sound great. Feel free to keep them coming, there may be some that are easier to get than others…
