The cost of a comic

Today’s post is a quick one but an important one. As an avid fan of webcomics.com and their webcomics weekly podcast I was thinking last night of the life of a comic artist. Ask anyone who can’t support themselves (yet fingers crossed) on their comics and they’ll tell you it’s like working 2 jobs. The one during the day to pay the bills and the evening job that keeps you sane. A comic will often take the equivalent of a full day’s work but squished around things that need to be done, or as is sometimes the case, instead of the things that need to be done.

This weeks comic was an example of that. After a particularly hectic week, last night I was under the pump and was forced to neglect the cleaning, the washing, and most importantly spending time with my beautiful partner. It’s a tough job being a comics widow. We share the same space as our partners but have tunnel vision and often neglect what is going on around us.

I just want to give a shout out to all the lovely supportive partners who allow us to do what we love. And since I got to bed at 1.45 am last night this is ESPECIALLY for my wonderful fiance. I love you sweetie. There’s a reason the books are dedicated to you.
