Armagedon and She’s My Baby
Hey folks, couple of things I wanted to talk about, first of all congrats to all the folks who rocked out at Armageddon. Paul Bedford, Bobby N., Jason Franks, Colin Wilson, Tom Taylor, Matt Emery and Brendan Halyday represented Melbourne comics.
I was lucky enough to get a couple of gorgeous sketches from the amazing Bill Sienkiewicz and Nicola Scott. I also got some of my comics signed by the razor sharp Greg Rucka and the legendary Peter David. Some people commented on the day Peter seemed a bit grumpy but he was the picture of charm when I talked to him.
The neagatives of the convention was that the organiser thought it was a good idea to put the panels in the same space as the wrestling and booths. Respected comics professionals were drowned out by the crash of wrestlers and cheers of crowd. It was amatuer hour for the organisers when usually they’ve usually been pretty good.
Secondly, and this is a bit out of my area of expertise, recently I went to one of those theatre thingies. Melbourne theatre company Fifth Gear recently put on their first play “She’s My Baby” and me and Dee popped along to opening night. A two act show crafted around two monologues the show was thoroughly impressive. the first act was the story of a young mother who was having trouble dealing with the pressure of raising a baby. The second act was an older man with an older daughter dealing with the same issues. The overwhelming challenge of parenthood. While some of the dialogue in the first act was a little over the top the second act was wonderfully naturalistic.
The show plans on touring so I recommend trying to catch it.

Hybrid novels (sometimes called illustrated novels or hybrid texts) are very popular in children’s publishing (think Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Captain Underpants) but have yet to successfully make the shift to older audiences.

Man, sounds like a great show, local talent was representin’ – sometimes I regret not living in Melbourne. You gotta come up this way sometime down the line!
But, the shows organizers don’t surprise me with that blunder

Hey Mate,
Great to see you again…if for only a brief moment! Was an okay show…but missed you and Jen as a booth presence. Next time or else!

I was talking to John Rentalick last week and he said how awesome TINA was so I will be coming up your way next year. And you have to come down. We need more interstate representation down here, I’ll make it happen even if i need to have everyone sleep on our couch.
