(500) days of Summer in (170) words
It’s usually Jen who does the film reviews since she gets to see so many. Me she keeps in her basement churning out comics. However on occasion I sneak out through a hole in the wall. Last night I did just that to see (500) days of Summer, the new Non-Rom-Com film.
The film is about a young man (Joseph Gordon Levitt), a greeting card writer who buys into the soul-mate ideal with Summer (the lovely Zoey Deschanel) and we’re treated to various moments of their ill defined relationship. You can’t help but like this film. The actors are top notch, the premise and dialogue just the right amount of indie-quirky, and the soundtrack features a healthy mix of new artists like The Temper Trap and Regina Spektor as well as classics from the Smiths and the Cure.
Maybe it’s the fact that i don’t see enough films but I completely enjoyed myself. I’ve read reviews that called this film Bittersweet and post modern. I just thought it was good. I guess I’ll never make it in this review business.
